ChiaNi was born and raised in the subtropical island of Taiwan in a town called Chiayi. Her parents were both talented artists, being gifted Chinese painters and calligraphers. She studied art in Taipei, eventually working in the advertising business for many years.
She came to the States with her then-husband, first to South Carolina, then eventually settling in Chicago, where she continued her studies at the renowned Art Institute of Chicago. She worked for several years in advertising, doing commercial storyboarding and illustration. She eventually ranked as one of the top illustrators in Chicago. She also taught Chinese and Chinese art for several decades.
Nowadays, she lives a more mellow lifestyle, doing arts & crafts with Chinese student organizations at Northwestern University and leading art workshops with schools around the Chicagoland area.
She has a daughter named Cathleen and a son named Wesley. Her furry feline companion is named June.
